As a practicing ophthalmologist and a survivor of two cancer occurrences and a sudden cardiac arrest, Dr. Will Flanary knows a thing or two about trying to survive American healthcare. So, he started creating comedy about it under the moniker of Dr. Glaucomflecken.
Millions have followed Will for his humorous videos that satirize the US healthcare system, poke fun at the complex workplace dynamics in the medical world, and get honest about clinician burnout and mental health. What started as a silly hobby became a real platform – and an opportunity for advocacy. He's well known for shining light on stories of corporate healthcare entities misbehaving, and rallying public support behind the medical workers, patients, and families who are fighting back.
Together with his wife Kristin, he has developed and shared educational resources that teach clinicians more about topics like fighting back against private equity's influence on healthcare, ethical social media use for medical professionals, navigating health insurance as a medical worker or a patient, and bringing more compassion into the healthcare world.
